Neo’s World
Time has passed. I’ve been keeping busy teaching coding to kids, which will be the subject of a new section and post series “programming for kids”. It’s going to be a streamlined version of how I taught Neo to code, refined and tested.
Neo has also been keeping busy. He’s 15 now and no longer writing games in CBM BASIC 7.0. Since he got involved with Unity he has written more than ten different games. We chose one, called “rpg” and decided to work on it together and release it. I give you, Neo’s World.
I began by creating a character, and naming him Bronan. I know, real original.
I found myself in a town and I talked to a few people and got some quests.
I went out and killed some zombies but during my mission a raider attacked me when I strayed too close to their camp.
Later on after I had completed my quests I checked out some of the shops in the area. Here’s a clothing shop, apparently for wizards. That’s good because my character is a wizard.
It’s a nice looking town. There’s a graveyard over the hill. I wonder what kinds of monsters live there? I took a quick look at the town before heading out.
Neo’s world. I think this game shows promise. I’m not going to lie, the game as it is has problems. Here’s a few I noticed.
1. The quests don’t save between sessions.
2. Drop tables need a lot of work (especially for the leather quest)
3. Skill progression and level progression don’t make sense
4. Some bugs in the menu system
I will hold back from saying things like “needs more content” or “needs better graphics” because this is a 0.1 version and quite frankly it amazes me that Neo at only 15 was able to get this far. And this is one of his older projects.
I am sure if I guide him a little in the art of pacing, level design, gameplay, etc. we can turn this into a really awesome game.
You can download this game on the Neo’s World page at the top menu or just go to the Neo’s World page on itch.io. More information to come soon!

Sensational!! Love this, amazing work. Very enjoyable and interesting, especially at such an age. Great that you listed your future features to implement and bugs to smash. Press on fellow programmer!
Response: Thanks, and we will check out the bugsmashers game you mentioned too. The one from the Star Citizens dev team 🙂
